Oldfield captain Shane Smart was left beaming with delight after his side managed to overcome a powerful North Dorset side away from home in Southern Counties South. The skipper was delighted with the manner in which his side turned things around after withstanding a massive onslaught at the beginning of the match.
Smart said: "It was the most enjoyable match I have had all season as captain and it was a reward for the commitment, direction and effort that we have been putting in."
Oldfield found themselves two tries down after ten minutes, but responded with a penalty from scrum-half Lee Sumsion.
Then Oldfield managed to secure some possession and realised they had to spread the ball wide and tire the North Dorset pack.
Strong running from Smart, Sean Jones and Andy Ross scattered the Dorset defence and Simon Williams touched down in the corner after some pressure from winger Mark Crowther.
Oldfield applied the pressure in defence and were rewarded when Pat Bunton collected his own charge down to score.
The second half saw the expected retort from North Dorset, but their limited game plan to keep it tight was soon exposed as Oldfield ran in further scores.
Strong running from Nick Coleman and the fast hands of James Read created space for the back three, resulting in a brace of tries for full back Chirs Quintin and a well finished move from Crowther.
Sumsion added a further penalty and two touchline conversions. |
