So the Kiwis are supposed to be the fairest and most knowledgeable rugby fans in the world.
They are supposed to represent the greatest traditions of the game and have based their national reputation on it.
So.........why have so many of their tight fisted fans spent the past two weeks holding out to sell their unwanted match tickets for the highest price possible? Imagine a bar in Paris, one of tens of thousands of English fans trying to negotiate a price with a Kiwi, who no longer has any interest in the final. The fan had £500 on him, was willing to go to bank for another £250, but right in front of him the mercenary Kiwi sold to the tout, at the 'Kiwi minimum' of £1000. Others have been interviewed on Sky boasting about how much they sold their tickets for, in what seems to have become a sick side competition to the actual World Cup itself.
In bar after bar, one could find Kiwis bragging about how much they had got, or that they were holding out for more. In contrast the Aussie and French fans, left with tickets they didn't want, were quite happy to sell to fans at far lower and more sensible prices. For a nation of supposed rugby lovers, to behave in this unscrupulous and opportunistic way is sad, they should be ashamed!!
A final thought on the All Black psyche - why is it that those I was unfortunate enough to sit next to, just kept banging on about how the best team in the World, were not in the final... and that England had never beaten the All Blacks at the World Cup?
All I can say is: bring it on in 2011. Stick up your hotel prices to rip off the true fans, sell your tickets on the black market after watching your side get what your supporters actions deserve - a right good stuffing!!! Other than that, a great atmosphere and a fantastic weekend - our boys and fans did us proud. |
