Oldfield travelled away to face one of the lumpiest sides you are ever likely to see. For years Gordano's 'fat boy, stick it up yer jumper' approach has made them a force to be reckoned with.

But the fact is that these days the lumps of lard find it hard to get around the park fast enough (much like Murph!!). Playing into a very strong wind Oldfield retained possession well and frequently made good ground by running the ball from deep. Clint once again revelled in the 'bosh it' role and his centre combination with the elusive Readie, worked well. Good counterattacks from deep led to two unanswered first half tries, for winger Andy Taylor and full back Ollie McAfferty.

After a very welcome, balanced and constructive half time speech from the referee, Oldfield kicked off the second half with a 10-0 lead. With the wind at their backs Oldfield fully expected to go on and win by a big margin, but Gordano stung them by scoring first. Odd niggles continued around the park, with the Gordano 6 showing himself to be a a right twat, but despite this, Oldfield, including 2nd row 'Rocky Burns' retained discipline well. A good break up the blind side wing by Ben Escott (on for Andy Taylor) saw a length of the field  move, involving Pat Bunton and Russell HoneyBum; end with Jack Burns scoring in the corner. Scrum half Guillan Clark put up a kick, which the 'miles offside' Jack Burns gathered for his second try of the day. The outstanding Russ HoneyBum also bagged a try and that was just deserts for his efforts.

The old heads of Norman, Burns, Patrick, Humphs and Murphy in the pack did well to secure enough ball for the ever threatening threes, but once again the youthful Rikki, Russ and Jonny F added some much needed zip at the breakdown. All in all a good day at the office, two points secured, but everyone ended the game knowing we could do soooooooo much more.

In the bar after the game the Gordano 6 redeemed himself by forcing Murph and Rocky Burns to neck a pint each. Readie, the departed man of the match, was replaced in the line up by Rocky Burns - so watch out next time you're at Shaft Road Readie - I'm sure he'll be looking to return the compliment!!

Tries: Burns (2), Taylor, HoneyBum, McAfferty.

Conversions: Bunton (2)
