Promotion-chasing Frome handed Oldfield their first defeat in seven matches with a 21-12 Southern Counties South win at Gypsy Lane on Saturday.
And Oldfield, who take on Wimborne in a crucial mid-table battle at home this weekend, will be concerned that Frome were able to win despite playing for 65 minutes with 14 men after front-rower Aaron Midwinter was red-carded early on.
"Losing the first score at the start of the second half was the killer blow for us against a side which coped very well with being a man down for most of the game," said Sumsion.
"We had a couple of very experienced guys missing from key positions and that meant we had a young side out, which gave Frome an edge in terms of experience.
"This weekend, we hope to bounce back from the defeat by Frome when we play Wimborne, who beat us twice last season.
"We feel we're a better side this season and this weekend's game will be a good chance to prove that."
At half-time, Oldfield were 12-6 in front thanks to tries from full-back Chris Quintin and inside centre Joel Hawkins and a conversion from skipper Sumsion.
But Frome, who had just two Dominic Jones penalties to show for the their first-half efforts, dominated the second period.
Making light of being a man short, the visitors ran in three unconverted tries from Andy Doel, Toby Culff and Jake Babb to stay in second spot in the table behind Trowbridge.
Oldfield, meanwhile, after putting together a run of six straight victories to climb into fifth place now face a tough challenge at home this weekend to get back on the rails with Wimborne just one place behind them in the table and level on points with a game in hand. |
