Two top local teenage rugby talents could be making age-group international headlines early next year - one with Scotland and the other with England. Oldfield Rugby Club's Jamie Harrup, who captains Prior Park School's 1st XV, will get his crack at international honours north of the border.
An open-side flanker, Prior Park sixth-former Harrop has been selected for this season's Scotland Under 19 squad.
He has already played representative rugby with the Scottish Exiles squad - a team made up of teenagers based at English schools which plays in the annual Scottish inter-district age-group championship.
"Jamie has been a stand-out at open-side in our Southern Counties South side all season, playing whenever his Prior Park commitments have allowed," said OIdfield club captain Lee Sumsion.
"He is very quick and very strong and he doesn't look the slightest bit out of his depth in senior rugby, despite his age.
"He's a terrific talent and one of three outstanding young players, along with Freddie Burns and Shaun Lilley, who are making a big contribution to any success we have this season.
"Everybody at Oldfield is delighted to see him getting a chance with Scotland Under 19 and we wish him all the best if he gets selected."
Corsham lock Rhys Jones, meanwhile, has been called up to the South West Divisional under 18 squad for the remainder of the current season.
Jones, 18, was one of nine players from Dorset & Wilts clubs who were recommended for divisional squad trials held at Bristol Grammar School recently.
Jones now has a chance to stake his claim for a place in the South West team who will take part in a divisional festival this month against teams representing the North, Midlands and London and South East.
If Jones performs well at Broadstreet RFC on December 21, 22 and 23, he could be called up for England duty in this season's Home Unions and Association of European Rugby (AER) competitions.
Dorset & Wilts' under 18 squad has enjoyed a successful season so far, beating Bucks (away), Berks (away) and Oxon (home) in Under 18 County Championship outings.
And for the first time, nine players from the Twin Counties under 18 squad, which is coached by John Brown, Chris Stagg and Simon Culley, were summoned to the South West Divisional Trials.
