Simon Layton's (pictured below) rag tag band of mercenaries responded magnificently to another rousing speech from the Old Man.

Oldfield started well with the front row of Humphries, Nesbitt & Patrick providing a solid foundation at the scrum. This provided a great platform for Raith and Bunton to exploit around the base and the scoreboard started ticking over with an early penalty.

A good rumble, followed by some direct running saw Millward go over in the corner and it was clear that the old heads in the Oldfield team were going to be far too strong for an incredibly young looking Frome Vets Team. To be fair Frome were hampered by having our very own Layts playing in their back row, though to be honest no one really remembers seeing him during the game! We also lent Frome Homer Simson (aka Rog Parker) on the wing and his electrifying pace was a threat throughout.

Andy coming in for his first game at 10 went well and the touch rugby specialists, including our very own Milly, John and especially Julian Lye looked more like contact junkies. In the second half, scrums went uncontested, which to be fair saved Gary Paul any embarrasment, as the Frome prop looked like he might do a job on him. Outside the scrum Scrumpy Morris came on at 10 and whilst he made some telling breaks, he never quite had the gas to go all the way - a salutory reminder to us all about how quickly you can lose your pace.

A second Millward try, one from Steve Rose, another from Bunton and a glorious crash over in the corner from John Rickets helped push the final score out to 35-12. It could have been more as Rocky, confused the referee by trying to steal someone elses try, in so soing he managed to turn a perfectly good score into a 5 metre scrum.

Well played lads a good game and great to see so many old (some very old) and new faces turn out

Tries: Millward (2), Rose, Ricketts, Bunton, TBC

Conversions: Bunton (2)

Penalty: Bunton
