Oldfield started 2008 with a bang last Saturday,
notching a 20-5 home win over North Dorset which lifted them up to fourth place in the Southern Counties South table. But skipper Lee Sumsion reckons the Shaft Road side needs to work on their fitness after failing to hammer home their advantage in the second half.
"We were 5-0 down after five minutes but 20-5 up at the interval and we didn't really make the most of the chances which came our way in the second half," said Sumsion, who picked up the first yellow card of his career for fending off North Dorset's blind-side flanker.
"We need to sharpen up a bit and we'll be putting a bit of graft in on the training pitch over the next couple of weeks to solve that problem."
Bath academy youngster Sean Lilley, who played alongside former player-coach Andy Boyce, notched two tries and lock and coach Ben Staunton got the other, with Sumsion adding two conversions and a penalty.
This Saturday, Oldfield take on Bristol Harlequins in the first round of the Somerset Blackthorn Cup at Shaft Road. |
