Since we were shifted sideways, a lot has been said about our opponents being weaker than our Western Counties North counterparts
but, just two seasons ago, we finished below Harlequins and on Saturday we cruised comfortably to a convincing victory.
The backs grabbed all 40 points with fine displays from Freddie Burns, Joel Hawkins and Sean Lilley as they carved up the Harlequins defence after all the hard work put in by our forwards. Up front, recent signing and England U18 flanker Guy Mercer was immense and made a great impact in the first team.
Bristol Harlequins tried to rough us up a bit up front but, we generally ignored their 'physical tactics' and dominated in all parts of the field.
Once again I was yellow carded for retaliating to an off the ball punch in my face, (yellow cards must be like buses, I wait all my life for one then two turn up in two weeks!!!) along with the Bristol No 8. Debutant Guy Mercer was also yellow carded late on for persistent infringement however, the referee some how managed to only award penalties for Harlequins stamping... bemusing to say the least!
Result: Oldfield 40 - 10 Bristol Harlequins. |
