Beechen Cliff School, Bath Rugby Academy and Oldfield prop Kane Palma-Newport has won selection for England's AER Under 18 squad. And the Bath youngster is now looking forward to pulling on an England shirt against Scotland next month.
And he hopes to follow that up by playing for England in the AER (Association of European Rugby) tournament in Italy in March. Capped at under 16 level last season, Palma-Newport recently helped his club side, Oldfield's under 19 team, knock National 3 outfit Redruth out of the National Colts Cup at Shaft Road. Palma-Newport, who is currently studying for his A-levels at Beechen Cliff, won his England Under 18 call-up after starring with Somerset Under 18 Schools. He attended England trials as a member of the South West regional side which played matches against the Midlands and North at a recent festival. Palma-Newport is one of two local youngsters called up to the England Under 18 squad, joining Corsham School and Corsham RFC second row Rhys Jones. England play Scotland Under 18 at Melrose on March 2 (noon) before heading off to the AER tournament in Treviso, where their opening match is against Georgia on March 16. As part of a series of warm-up games, Palma-Newport played for England Under 19 against Worcester Academy last Sunday. |
