Faced with a long drive to the salubrious surroundings of Clevedon the day started with the match in doubt.

With 12 unavailability's and late cry off's the 2nds went away with 8 players under 21.

Arriving at Clevedon with the home side going through a Boycie style warm up, we were mistaken into thinking that the first team were at home. They were clearly hoping to consolidate the runners up spot.

From the kick off the pack stamped our authority on the game which was to set the tone for the next 80 minutes. Clevedon opted to play into a strong wind so early points were crucial.

A series of rucks involving the dynamic back row of Honeybun, Chapman and "I am the dance floor Fielding" repeatedly caught Clevedon off side. With Bunti sidelined due to haemorrhoids, skipper Humph turned to his front row colleague Farmer, who obliged with 3 penalties within the first twenty minutes.

Further pressure resulted in a scrum 10 meters out. The evergreen front row of Humph, Merv & Farmer marched the opposition over their own line with Farmer converting Chappers push over try. Even Chairman Burnsie broke sweat thanks to Gobey giving him a nudge.

Time and time again the half backs of Lane and Erickson made breaks to command the field position and create space out wide for Sam Lane and Theo (making his second team debut). An experienced Clevedon backs line were very much on the back foot.

A half time lead of 17-0 with the elements was a great return, but it was still ours to lose.

Despite the wind advantage Clevedon were camped in their 22 within minutes. Pressure on a Clevedon put in near their line resulted in Fielding scampering over for a try, which Farmer converted.

With Escott and Mcafferty running from deep when Clevedon were kicking away ball, we held onto the pill for long periods with strong rucking.....Honeybun again a thorn in their side.

A final Farmer penalty wrapped up proceedings with a great 27 - 0 victory and completed the double over Clevedon.

The young guns stepped up to the plate and but for the Bristol Quins fiasco we would have deservedly finished runners up to Old Reds.

The league season finished on a high with aspirations to challenge for the North Somerset 2 title next year.
