Oldfield bounced back from their 34-7 midweek Somerset Cup semi-final defeat to South West 2 West side Clevedon
with a 35-10 Southern Counties South win over Oakmeadians at Shaft Road last Saturday. Teenage openside Russell Honeybun was Oldfield's star turn with a man-of-the-match debut in the victory.
The home side romped into a 21-5 half-time lead in atrocious conditions and added 14 more points in the second half.
Wing Greg Stafford led the try-scoring exploits with a brace and Joel Hawkins, Craig Lilley and Ben Staunton touched down a try apiece with skipper Lee Sumsion kicking three penalties and three conversions. Four days earlier, Clevedon, who will play Taunton at Weston-super-Mare in this Sunday's county cup final, proved too powerful for Oldfield. Oldfield were eventually rewarded for their efforts with a try from Andy Wright, with Lee Sumsion kicking the conversion. vs 1xv.jpg) Oldfield will, however, get another crack at a cup final appearance on Saturday, when they tackle Somerset Premier mid- table side Midsomer Norton in the semi-finals of the Bath Combination Coors Cup competition. The winners will play South West 2 East champions-elect Chippenham or Bath University in the final at The Rec on Wednesday, May 7. |
