In the first league match of the season Oldfield made the long journey down to Clevedon to play one of the divisions top sides.

The long delays caused by road works on the Avonmouth bridge were a sign of things to come, as was the constant breaking down of  Humphs's car - Toff - Humphs was blaming you all afternoon!!!

Shortly into the game Oldfield found themselves 17-0 down as Clevedon played some good rugby in which support runners and popped passes out of the tackle were a feature.

Heads could have gone down, but to Oldfield's credit the score at half-time was reduced to 17-10 after tries from Bunti and debut winger Lewington brought them back into the game.

Humph's set out the plan for the 2nd half 'we must score first' but just seconds into the half traffic policeman Andy Murphy waved through one of Clevedon's big lumps for an unopposed try under the posts - if only he'd been available to sort out the traffic chaos on the way to the ground!!!!

Oldfield tried hard with a notable performance from another debutante at scrum half - Baby Farmer and Ben Escott featured with some brave tackling from full back. The ancient warlord Trefor Roberts looked exactly that (ancient that is) and Rocky Burns had his customary 10 minute breather after getting involved in yet another scrap - what is it with those Burns boys?

Chris Ericson at 12 tried hard, but found the Clevedon defence just too tight and his co centre Mr Gillett seemed to have a few problems catching the ball  - still there's always next week to put it right when Weston Hornets venture up to fortress Shaft Road.
