Oldfield II travelled to Old Reds on Saturday keen to avenge their defeat in the first game of the season.
Oldfield took to the field with 14 players, due to late cancellations and played the game with immense spirit and pride. However, ultimately Oldfield came up against a well drilled and trained Old Reds III’s. Oldfield tackled hard and hit many an Old Red back in the contact area, but ultimately Old Reds off loaded well in the tackle and ran good lines of attack to create continual overlaps. The game continued furiously with Oldfield struggling to gain possession and control. When Oldfield gained some territory it was squandered with poor kicking from hand. Old Reds kept pressing and the tries kept coming, but to Oldfield’s credit they kept up with awesome tackling from all of the forwards and backs. The final score didn’t reflect the effort the 14 players on the pitch and ultimately Oldfield II’s can be proud of the passion and effort displayed. Players to note were Luke Lane for hitting brick walls, knocking over anyone who was in his way and scoring a fantastic try that was more than deserved. Ricky Wynnes again showed he is getting better and better. Ben Escott for becoming the ultimate 6! Ed Hollway, for his awesome rucking and ball carrying. The whole team played their heart out and although the score was heavy, Oldfield learnt a lot from Saturday and continues to move forward as a team to the next game. At Home against St Bernadettes II’s on Saturday 19th Dec 09.
